About Summer Camp 2012
Three-and four-year-olds, Kindergarteners, and rising 1st graders may join us for the whole summer or for a week or weeks of your choice. We’ll take time EVERY day to play outdoors and indoors, engaging in water play, movement, art, music, story time, as well as friendship and community building activities.
Our overall theme this summer will be the four elements of land, water, air, and fire. Through art and science projects we’ll learn about the land under our feet, our state of North Carolina. We’ll dig for fossils common to our state, and consider our state mascots, the pine tree and cardinal, then turn our attention to some of the landforms in North Carolina.
While making models of our coastline, an island or two, and some rivers, lakes, and mountains, we’ll naturally turn our focus to water. We’ll take a look at water cycles, evaporation and condensation, and have great fun experimenting with how water behaves.
We’ll investigate air and its relationship to land, water, and fire, and through experiments, we’ll look at forces that generate energy, ending the summer with an exploration of static electricity, gravity, and magnetics.
Camp is held in MCHD’s after-school building at 116 Hilton Ave., in a residential home directly behind our former main campus at 2400 University Dr. In future years, our camp will be held at our new location at 2800 Pickett Rd .
A week or more of summer camp is a great way for new Preschool students to become acquainted with MCHD!
